Have I ever mentioned the remarkable similarity between the infamous Simon’s Cat and Crouton? I think I did on the “Who is Crouton?” page, but every time a new video is released, it reminds me how eerie it is.
Are there enough really bad cats in this world that more pet owners feel this way? The above video just rings so true. Crouton likes to “help” us “clean off” tables and nightstands. Really, it’s quite sweet of her to make sure our tabletops are free of clutter.
About a week ago, I had some friends over for dinner. I decided to make a super-healthy, not-at-all-artery-clogging macaroni and cheese with bacon and chicken. I knew I had to serve *something* healthy on the side, but one friend warned me: “Don’t make salad. I won’t touch it.” (She has been eating salad all week long.) So when I saw strawberries on sale at Trader Joe’s, I thought I’d make a fruit salad with a twist.
Savory Fruit Salad
1 pound strawberries, sliced
1 cantaloupe, cut into small chunks
3 large apples, cut into chunks
Assorted other fruits of your choosing
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
10 fresh basil leaves, sliced
Salt and pepper
The preparation really couldn’t be any easier. After slicing the fruit into the sizes you want, combine it in a large bowl with the oil, vinegar, basil, and a generous sprinkling of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly and chill until serving.
I had fruit leftover, so I made this again two days later for my book club group. Both times, someone said, “Oooo…what’s in this fruit salad?”
